How Innovative is My School?

Update: This questionnaire is now less than 30 actual questions in place of over 70.

This should provoke some interesting debates! Give it a try and let me know what you think. It isn’t perfect, but it will give you some idea of where your school lies on the spectrum of innovation.

Note: You can probably guess what the right answer should be, but what would be the point of that? If you answer honestly, you’re more likely to get an accurate score, and with a more accurate score, you’ll be able to make the changes you need to make in order to call yourself a truly progressive school.

(Please brew a cup of tea before you start – the questionnaire does take a while to complete.)

The Questionnaire: How Innovative is My School?

What Your Score Means:

95% – 100%: DIAMOND CROWN LEVEL Your school ranks in the top ten globally! A true miracle of innovation and an example to the rest of the world. You must be doing amazing things. Congratulations on being so forward-looking, so child-centred and so dynamic in your approach to education. We stand in awe!

85% – 94%: PLATINUM SCEPTER LEVEL Your school ranks inside the top ten percent world-wide. Your school must be an amazing place! Keep up the good work. Get your score out on social media – the world needs to know what you’re doing.

75% – 84%: GOLD SWORD LEVEL You get an A for innovation! You are doing a great deal towards offering a meaningful twenty-first century education. Get your score out on social media – the world needs to know what you’re doing.

65% – 74%: SILVER DAGGER LEVEL Not bad! You obviously have a fairly innovative school environment and you’re doing many things right. There is room for improvement though. Why not shake things up a little more?

55% – 64%: BRONZE ARROW LEVEL The good news is that you’re doing quite a bit right. The bad news is that you still have a way to go. Have a look at few different ways of doing things using the links below and your score is sure to improve.

45% – 54%: BENT COPPER WAND LEVEL There’s some innovation going on at your school. But you know it isn’t enough. How about reimagining a few things for next year? Check out the links below for some inspiration.

35% – 44%: RUSTY POCKET WATCH LEVEL With this score, you are very likely to call yourself a ‘traditional school’ espousing ‘traditional values’ – which means you’re doing things the same way you’ve done them for the past few decades. Surely you owe it to your students to make a few key changes?

Below 35%: STEPPED IN SOMETHING SQUISHY No. I’m afraid you didn’t make the grade. Please consult the reading list below for some ideas on how to start improving.

Now that you have your score, why not study the areas where you didn’t score well and start to make plans to improve in these areas.

A Reading List for Innovation

It may not seem like it, but this reading list is far from comprehensive. Links are arranged by category. Originally, each of these categories corresponded to a question. Although I have trimmed down the questions since, I have chosen to leave the links as they are.
